stephaniesid: Biography

stephaniesidstephaniesid is "indie pop revelry" (Sonic Parthenon, NYC). The emotional-yet-buoyant pop band was recently voted "Best Rock Band" and "Best Indie Band" for the second year in a row in their hometown of Asheville, NC, a city widely known for its musical soul.

The band possesses remarkable technical prowess, lending all the proper tools needed to create well-crafted songs and beautiful recordings. The music explores both the melancholy and triumph of human life and love, the players equally faithful stewards of large, intoxicating swells and infectious dance melodies. Stephanie Morgan, a lusty-voiced "hyperactive siren" (Go Triad, Greensboro, NC), performs sans instruments, channeling the likes of Blondie, Bjork, Jim Morrison, Beth Gibbons, and the unflagging hope of an Iowan-born and Texas-raised former gymnast.

stephaniesid was born in 2002, around the nucleus of now husband-wife writing team Stephanie Morgan (vocalist) and Chuck Lichtenberger (keyboardist). The duo has toured with a changing cast of stellar band members (vibraphonist Matthew Richmond, drummer/vibist Kari Richmond, drummer Cameron Juroff, drummer/producer Vic Stafford, Atlanta bassist Rob Geisler, upside-down guitar whiz Michael Libramento, drummer Kevin Rumley of Bandazian).

The band's debut album, "Spiral In," was quickly placed in regular rotation by regional AAA station WNCW. The same year, the album was named in the Top 100 national releases by regional AAA-beacon WNCW, the Asheville Ballet choreographed "ANNA! A Rock Ballet" to the music (commanding an encore run later that year), and NYC's JANE Magazine chose the single "Popsicles" for their 2005 compilation. The band also released a 'B-sides' EP ("This EP is MONEY") in early 2006. The satirical "White Guys Selling Cars" was widely appreciated by fans, as was the band's cover of Portishead's "Glory Box."

Out of a basement jam in early 2006 came the unabashed "Unmistakably Love". This began the earnest recording the third stephaniesid release, "Grus americanus". In the midst of the recording, Morgan and Lichtenberger were married in Iceland and the band signed with Nine Mile Records. "Grus americanus", produced by Vic Stafford, features performances by several of Asheville's best musicians and singers. The record released nationally on Sept. 11, 2007, and has garnered attention from Paste, Harp, and Filter Magazines, and several other national publications, and is receiving national radio play. stephaniesid has again been named in the Top 100 National Releases of 2007 by WNCW for "Grus."

"It would be some sort of musical travesty if stephaniesid flies under the Rolling Stone radar for much longer..." says The Daily Times in Knoxville, TN of "Grus americanus". The single "Unmistakably Love" (deemed "unmistakably a hit" by Encore Weekly in Wilmington, NC) has been featured on numerous national CD samplers and film/tv placements.
